It's the Little Things That Count (Part 4)

Image
Hello and welcome to the final part of this Advance Wars guide. It's been a long ride but there is only so much that I can present. Let's get started. When playing a strategy game like this, there are a lot of things that need to been considered as I have shown the in the previous posts. Such factors can determine the survival of a unit you may have or completely sway the tide of the match. Knowing some of these situational examples will help you make better strategic decisions in wider application. As always, the following images are sourced by me by screenshotting the game however all credit for the content goes to the Intelligent Systems company. ___________________________________________________________________________________ One on One Unit Engagements Let' say you have a Tank and want to attack another tank on the map. The opposing Tank is sitting on plains terrain, the tile above that it is a wood/forest terrain tile and the tile in front of it is a road tile. W...

Welcome to part 3 of my Advance Wars game guide. In the last part, I showed the major mechanics of the pieces that you are playing with however there is more to that. Your pieces interact with a world around it and has to traverse it to reach your opponent's pieces. Trust me, you'll need to know what the environments do in order to maximize your chances of success in the game. In my experience, even the smallest factors can bend a match in your favor. Before I get started I would like to state that all images used are taken (screenshotted) by me. All credit is given to Intelligent Systems for the content contained in each image. The Gears of Your Strategy (Part 2)

Hello and welcome back to my Advance Wars (will be referred to as AW) guide. Today I will be talking about how the game works plus other helpful information. Please note that distance will be to referred as squares on a board. I also cannot cover all the units as that will be far too extensive for the length of the guide. Finally, the following images were sourced by me by screenshotting the game on my computer. Like I said in my intro, the game works somewhat like chess. Lets start with the pieces on the board; in chess you move one piece per turn. However for AW, your pieces (units) can ALL be controlled in the same turn where each unit can move, act or in some cases both at the same time. Just like chess, each distinct piece has their own pros and cons which need to be accounted for in order to succeed in a battle.  Units  have/do:  (Refer to "DoR" category on the hyperlink table) Mobility       1A. Slow speed (2 or 3 squares)      1B...

Hello everyone and welcome to my beginners intro and guide to Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. My name is Terry Tran and I have played this game for many years of my life. I consider this as part of my childhood and haven't really found anything like it since. I wanted to talk about this game so that others may find enjoyment in it as I have even if its rather old (2008). One can access the game via buying old copies off internet stores like Ebay or emulation apps which runs the game outside of the DS. The future sections of this blog will discuss the game mechanics, at least some units, and other advanced topics. For now, it will be an intro to the series. Advance Wars is a strategy video game series created by Intelligent Systems for the Nintendo Gameboy,  DS and now Switch. If you are familiar with the series Fire Emblem , then you may recognize the developer. The games in singleplayer are story driven which involve the player completing many levels of varying difficulty using the ...
